Cherokee Park is the key park in urban Louisville, spanning over 400 acres of city grounds. Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and opened in 1892, the park sees a very high amount of visitors every year. The park has everything from baseball fields and basketball or tennis courts to picnic areas, hiking trails, a golf course, a pool, horseshoe pits, a dog run and more.

Key attractions inside the park include the Big Rock, located off of Beargrass Creek, a spot popular for picnicking; Frisbee Field, where the whimsical, casual sport is enjoyed; the Scenic Loop, a 2.5 mile road around the park, popular with bikers and joggers; Hogan’s Fountain, for horses in the past and currently used mainly by dogs, which represents the god Pan and opened in 1905; Baringer Hill, site of a dog run; and Nettleroth Bird Sanctuary.
