Visitors to the city of Colorado Springs and the surrounding Pikes Peak region of Colorado will find a very interesting and unique attraction sure to peak their curiosity: the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The facility is one of the two sole mountain zoos in all of the US, and happens to be the more impressive one at that. The zoo's address is 4250 Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Road, resting a few miles to the southwest of the city of Colorado Springs.

The zoo was set up to accommodate the growing collection of exotic animals kept by local philanthropist Spencer Penrose, and in 1938 Penrose handed off the zoo to the city of Colorado Springs as a non-profit public trust. Today, the zoo receives no tax support but rather relies purely on admission fees, donations, membership dues and grants.

Admission to the zoo costs $14.25 for adults, $12.25 for seniors and $7.25 for children. Hours of operation during summer months are from 9am-6pm, while during the rest of the year they are from 9am-5pm.
