Chiang Mai Zoo developed from a private collection of an American missionary who lived in Chiang Mai. Harold Mason Young opened his home to share his wide collection of pets to the locals. After his death, the city government converted the private property into a fully operational public zoo.

Located in a lush green environment in the foothills of Doi Suthep Mountain in Chiang Mai, the Zoo covers an area of over 212 acres. Its popular attractions include more than thousands of species of both flora and fauna. The most well loved features are the Giant Panda and Koala zones, which are housed separately inside the zoo’s premises.

There are sections that encourage animal interaction as well, where visitors can walk among more than 200 animals in the vast 40 acres. Chiang Mai Zoo is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with admission fee of BHT100 for adults and BHT50 for children.
