With address at 600 East Grand Avenue on Navy Pier in the center of Chicago, Illinois, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater is one of the premiere entertainment and theatrical show venues in all of Chicago and the surrounding region. Established in 1986 by its current artisitc director, the theater originally began in another part of town, only being given permission to build its present home in 1999.

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater puts on over 600 performances annually on average, including a litany of Shakespeare plays as well as in-house productions and visiting theater group performances. The theater has received critical acclaim over the years, including various Jefferson Awards and Laurence Olivier Awards. Most recently, in 2008, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater received the Regional Theatre Tony Award.

The theater runs the biggest arts-in-education program in the entire state of Illinois, known as the "Team Shakespeare" program.

The theater's facilities offer state-of-the-art acoustics and technological apparatus, with a thrust stage in front of 510 seats (the Courtyard Theater). Upstairs, a smaller theater space is available with 200-seat capacity.
