The Chinatown in Sydney, Australia, is a locality located in the southern portion of the CBD. It is distinct from the other localities in the CBD in that the street signs are bilingual – one in English and one in Chinese.

This locality is the largest Chinatown in Australia. It began at The Rocks area during the late 19th century and was moved near Market Street at another locality, Darling Harbour. In the 1920s, it developed around Dixon Street, a pedestrian street mall, and is now the current location. It is in this locality that tourists and residents have a great selection of Chinese wares – including lanterns, parasols, and fans as well as calligraphy, fortune telling, cuisine, and medicine.

A prominent landmark is the Market City which is a commercial building with specialty shops, boutiques, and the Paddy’s Market. Other landmarks include the Belmore Park, the Chinese Garden of Friendship, and the whole locality with its Chinese buildings. Chinatown Sydney also holds the annual Chinese New Year Festival which is described to be largest, most spectacular Chinese New Year celebration outside of China/Asia.
