The Chinese Culture Center was started by a woman named Tao Re-Jin, who moved to San Diego, California, from her homeland in the Yun Nan Province of China. She decided to move in search of higher education, right after World War Two. After meeting other students at San Diego State University who echoed her sentiments of isolation and confusion in terms of mental, physical, financial, and language barriers. After graduating with a Bachelor Administration in Social Welfare in 1970, Tao went on to form the San Diego Chinese Culture Center. The aim of the center was helping those who find themselves in similar situations to Tao's. Today, this thriving non-profit counts thousands among those whom it has assisted.
