Chiswick

The Chiswick is an area in West London which is located nine and a half kilometers west of Charring Cross which covers most of the eastern part of London Borough of Hounslow.

Cheswick is one of the thirty five major centers of Greater London. Cheswick High Road is surrounded by a mix of retail stores, restaurants, food outlets, and expanding office spaces. It also has several hotel spaces. The wide streets encourage cafes and restaurants to provide pavement seating’s throughout the city. Cheswick is home to Griffin Brewery where Fuller Smith & Turner make their prize-winning wines. Artist William Hogarth also lived in the area of Cheswick and is buried in St Nicholas churchyard there.

The Cheswick was known as a fishing village near the St. Nicholas church on Church Street, but the name Chiswick later became used for a wider spread area and formed originally by merging the four villages of Chiswick, Strand-on-the-Green, Little Sutton, and Turnham Green. By 1815 Chiswick parish included all of the area bounded by the loop of the Thames, the High Road west of Turnham Green, the north side of Cheswick Common, and Bath Road to Goldhawk Road.

The Cheswick House was designed by the Third Earl of Burlington and built in 1726 as an extension to the earlier Jacobean house which was destroyed in 1899. It is also considered to be one of the finest surviving Palladian architectures in Britain which has a superb collection of paintings and furniture.
