Chongwenmen refers to a gate that is used to be a part of Beijing’s city wall. Today though, Chongwenmen is now the name of a station of the Beijing Subway, specifically Lines 2 and 5.

Line 2 of the subway is a rapid transit line that follows a rectangular loop around the center of Beijing. It is considered as the second busiest and oldest subway line in the city and the only one that serves the Beijing Railway Station. All of these stations are under the ground. The color of Line 2 witch which it is often used to distinguish it from other stations is blue.

Line 5, on the other hand, is the city’s first ever subway and with a distinctive purple color. It runs for 27.6 kilometers just east of the center of Beijing and has a north-south route. It is the first subway line in the city to install platform screen doors in underground train stations as well as automatic platform gates that effectively prevents passengers from falling on to the tracks.

There are great options with regards to accommodations that are close to the railway stations and to Chongwenmen.
