The largest art deco statue in the world and without a doubt the most iconic image of Rio de Janeiro, the Christ the Redeemer statue is a 130 foot tall statue of Jesus Christ on the top of Corcovado Mountain in Rio. Constructed of reinforced concrete and soapstone, the statue, which pictures Jesus with arms outstretched, was completed in 1931 after nine years of construction.

Christ the Redeemer is located at the top of Corcovado Mountain, which is located in the Tijuca Forest National Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From 1931 until 2002 visitors had to climb 220 stairs to reach the statue, however, today there is a panoramic elevator and motorized staircase that assists visitors in reaching the top of Corcovado Mountain. Christ the Redeemer is ground lit at night, and there is a chapel named after the patrol saint of Brazil at the base of the statue.
