The Christchurch Cathedral is an Anglican Cathedral located at the heart of the Christchurch City Centre. The cathedral is surrounded by the Cathedral Square. The Christchurch Cathedral also serves the Bishop of Christchurch’s seat. It features a prominent spire that stands 63 meters above the square.

Built during the second half of the 19th century, the cathedral was originally designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. Benjamin Mountfort served as the onsite supervisory architect. Initial plans for the cathedral called for it to be constructed out of wood. The discovery of a good masonry stone source altered those plans. Major renovations on the cathedral were executed in 2006 and 2007.
