Hotels near Chrysler Museum of Art The, Norfolk (Virginia), United States .

Located in the Ghent district of Norfolk, Virginia, the Chrysler Museum of Art was founded in 1933. It is named for automotive heir Walter P. Chrysler, Jr., who in 1971 donated most of his art collection to the museum to make it one of the major art museums in the Southeastern U.S.

The collection of the Chrysler Museum of Art is an impressive one, comprised of over 30,000 objects that span 5000 years of history. Significant works include those by Auguste Rodin, Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol among others. The final sculpture of Gianlorenzi Bernini is perhaps the prized possession of the Chrysler Museum, though its glass collections and ancient world representations are also quite impressive. Visitors should remember that apart from its permanent collection, the museum also hosts several special exhibits and events throughout the year, all of which can be consulted at www.chrysler.org.

The Chrysler Museum is open on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Admission to the museum’s permanent collection is free, though contributions are welcomed. Special events and exhibits do have a cost and should be consulted on this fantastic American museum’s website.
