Considered as the one of the most sacred sites in Nazareth, the Church of the Annunciation is an important basilica in the Christendom. Said to be built on the spot where the house of Joseph and Mary used to stand, the church is a big two-storey edifice housing a place of worship and a repository of artifacts and remnants of the old churches in its sacred cave within.

The Church’s original structure was constructed during the Byzantine Age. The current structure was erected in 1969, but it holds the ruins or relics of the previous churches erected on the same spot. The basilica amazes visitors with its colorful mosaics and the cave underneath. Here, one can find pieces of the church during the time of the Crusaders and other important relics that speak of the ancient history of the basilica.

Church of the Annunciation is open to the public from Mondays to Saturdays at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during winter months. Visiting hours are extended to an hour and include Sundays as well. Entrance to the church is free of charge.
