Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours is a motor racing track situated in Nevers, France. The famous Formula One French Grand Prix which was held between 1991 and 2008 was staged here. However, the French motor sport federation announced that this motor track would not be incorporated in the 2009 F1 season.
Magny-Cours was constructed in 1960 by Jean Bernigaud. It housed the esteemed L'école de pilotage Winfield racing school, from where some great drivers like Jacques Laffite and François Cevert emerged. The track was not in use for international motor racing in the 1980s. Later, the Regional Conseil de la Nievre bought the circuit and in the 1990s, the Ligier Formula One Team did most of its trials at this track.
Today, the Magny-Cours track boasts smooth circuit and offers excellent facilities to the spectators. The corners are named as the fast Estoril corner, the Adelaide hairpin and so forth. The circuit is consistently flat with minor elevations at places. The circuit is spread across 4.411 Kilometers (2.74 miles) and has some 17 turns. Irrespective of the turns, the circuit does not offer much overtaking opportunities.
