As the only walled city in North America, Quebec City was originally fortified in the 17th century at the instruction of Louis de Buade. The Citadelle of Quebec, a part of these fortifications, was at one time both a military installation and an official residence, and is located at the top of Cap Diamant, connecting the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City. The structure took 30 years to complete, and today houses the Royal 22nd Regiment Museum.

Also of note at the Citadelle of Quebec is the Changing of the Guard ceremony, which takes place at 10 A.M. daily during the summer in Quebec City. In addition to the Royal 22nd Museum and Changing of the Guard, historical tours of the Citadelle are also available. The Citadelle of Quebec is within easy walking distance of numerous tourist landmarks in the city, such as the Parc de Champs de Bataille, Notre Dame des Victoires, and Le Capitole De Quebec, amongst others.

The Citadelle of Quebec is located at Cote De la Citadelle, Quebec City, Quebec, and is open for tours from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. daily May through September, and at shortened hours daily October through April. Admission ranges from $6 - $10, with senior, student, and children receiving discounted admission.
