One of the most unique buildings in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada is the City Hall of Toronto. A modernist design of architect Viljo Revell, the winner of a design competition, construction on the building began in 1961 and was completed in 1965. Located on Queen Street West, the building features a rectangular base and two curved towers which rise to distinct heights. The round council chamber located between the towers, when seen from an aerial view, creates the appearance of an eye. The Old City Hall, built in 1899, lies just to the east of the new structure and is today used as a courthouse. Attractions in and around City Hill include the Nathan Phillips Square with a fountain and skating rink, the Peace Garden, the New Year’s Celebration with fireworks, sparklers and musical entertainment, the Cavalcade of Lights, Doors Open Toronto, the CN Tower, Casa Loma, and the Ontario Science Center.
