As of May 1, 1850, the City of Grand Rapids, Michigan, has existed since the village of Grand Rapids voted “yes” to a proposed city charter. Today, records can be found of all that has gone on in Grand Rapids since that date, in the City Archives and Records Center. Created by the City of Grand Rapids, it is a repository for government records including City Charters from 1857 on, Deeds of city-owned property from 1852 on, Photographs from 1870 on and Polk City Directories dating back to 1865. The City Archives are open from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday, and by appointment to researchers.
