The Wilmington Fire Department is led by Chief Buddy Martinette, and is responsible for the fire protection of the city, as well as for the response to any hazardous materials incidents, and any First Responder Emergency Service. Founded in 1846 as the Wilmington Hook and Ladder Company, today the department boasts over 200 professional fire fighters.
