City Park Freiburg
The city park in Freiburg is located Northeast of Freiburg’s Old Town. The park invites young and old people to hang out, relax and unwind.
The city park was opened in 1888 at a cost of entry until 1911. Up to the destruction of Freiburg in the Second World War, the general headquarters of Freiburg army stood in the city park, which was, however, rebuilt after the war. The park and the neighborhoods around the park was one of the most destroyed areas of the bombing.
Cozy park benches can be found as well as adorned with flower beds, paths and a large playground for children. In summer, one can enjoy the open air stage concerts and theatrical performances, and once a year the park hosts the Festival of Lights when thousands of candles are lit in the park and on the Schlossberg while bands provide mood. A cable car connects the city park with a restaurant and Dattler Schlossberg. The park has a miniature golf course located on the hillside below the Dattler.
