City Plaza Park (or Old City Plaza) is the former name of Cesar Chavez Park, at 924 J Street in downtown Sacramento. The park is known as a key urban oasis and as the site of a free Friday night concert series which takes place in the months of May to August. Of interest within the park is a historical marker which notes the history of the park, from its dedication by founder John Sutter to its establishment in 1873 as a public park. Other park monuments are dedicated to A.J. Stevens, a prominent figure in the Southern Pacific Railroad and Chavez himself, co-founder of the United Farm Workers.
