The Civic Center Park in Denver Colorado was the brainchild of Robert W. Speer, former Denver Mayor, who first proposed the concept in 1904. Temporarily out of office, upon his reelection in 1917 he officially opened the park in 1919 including some of today’s popular elements like the Greek amphitheater, the Colonnade, and the seal pond. Important institutions in and around Civic Center Park include the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Public Library, the City and County Building of Denver, and the Colorado History Museum. The park hosts many annual events, from a St. Patrick’s Day Parade, to PrideFest; the National Western Stock Show to an annual pro-cannabis rally. Everyone is sure to find their niche here! The park spans 3 square blocks, and is a great starting point for any Denver visitor, as the location of the Denver Metro Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
