Only 20 miles from Tampa's International Airport is one of the most popular beaches, that's grown in time from a sleepy seaside town to a major destination. That is Clearwater Beach, the busier of the two beaches in Clearwater, Florida. Known for getting so busy that it's tough to find a parking space, Clearwater Beach is a stretch of sandy white beach with tranquil waters known for a busy population of dolphins. Visitors can even schedule boat trips that take them out closer to the dolphins, who come to frolic in the Gulf's temperate waters.

Aside from the water and sand itself, Clearwater Beach has quite a boomtown of activities for tourists just a quick walk from the water's edge. Pier 60 is a popular spot for beach-goers who want to grab a snack or check out the souvenir shops. There's even a playground for kids, as well as a section of the pier just for fishing.

At sunset, the pier and beach are crowded with travelers and locals watching the view, walking to restaurants for dinner, and just relaxing. Unlike a number of other heavily-trafficked beaches in the southeast, Clearwater Beach has ample facilities for all as part of the Beach Walk, which includes shower nozzles for rinsing off after a day of salt and sand, drinking fountains, and of course, bathrooms, where you can change out of your wet bathing suit before dinnertime.

For travelers looking to have a more green experience while in Clearwater, there's a well-paved bicycle path into town, where you can beat the heat thanks to the shade of a number of mangrove trees along the way.
