Located at the Cleveland Police Station, the Cleveland Police Museum represents a trip back in time for visitors to the Ohio area. The museum was opened in 1983, after the creation of the Cleveland Police Historical Society. The idea came from a trip Detective Robert Bolton took to London, in which he toured Scotland Yard's Black Museum. Upon his return to Ohio, the then Chief William Hanton agreed to the creation of a similar museum for the Cleveland Police. The original museum was 1200 square feet in size and located on the first floor of the Police Headquarters in the Justice Center in downtown Cleveland. In more than twenty years of displaying exhibits for the local and visiting public, the museum has maintained a commitment to showing the 150 year history of the Cleveland Division of Police.
