One of the biggest universities in the state of Ohio, Cleveland State University is a public university with a world-renowned program for urban research, as well as a very strong program for aspiring doctors and medical researchers.

Officially established in the 1920s after a couple of decades of informal free classes offered by Cleveland's YMCA, the university grew significantly in the 1960s, adding a number of buildings that vastly improved the facilities offered. Cleveland State University also recently underwent a significant shift in how its admissions system worked, with the president deciding to institute an honors program and end its policy of open admissions. The university now ranks as a second-tier school with an undisputed world class research program.

Students have over 70 academic majors to choose some, with some of the most popular involving engineering, pre-law, and various liberal arts disciplines. The university also offers a number of master's programs, and also has two possible law degrees and six doctoral degree programs. Science and medicine students have the opportunity to do a great deal of hands-on work, since a large number of research facilities either operate on-campus, or are affiliated and involve students in their research. Some include The Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center, Bio Ohio, and Ohio Instrumentation, Controls, and Electronics.

Located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, Cleveland State University is in a great location for those students who don't want to be trapped all the way in the suburbs for their academic career.
