Clock Tower

Hotels near Clock Tower, Hong Kong, Hong Kong .

A Hong Kong Landmark, the Clock Tower is located on the south shore of Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon. It has been declared a Hong Kong monument since the year 1990. It is the only living remnant of the Kowloon Station’s former location. Its official name is the Former Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower and is more popularly referred to as the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower for its locale.

Constructed out of red bricks and granite, the Clock Tower is forty-four metres high and at its peak is a seven-metre lightning rod. A wooden staircase within the clock tower enables people to climb to its peak. Previously open to the public, the interior of the clock tower is now closed for maintenance purposes. Located near Victoria Harbor at Salisbury Road’s foot, the Clock Tower is nearby another popular landmark which is the Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier.

The Hong Kong Clock Tower has reused the old clock from the demolished Pedder Street Clock Tower. At that time, just one side possessed a clock and it was not until the year 1920 that the remaining three sides of the Clock Tower was installed. Operations began in March of 1921 and have run since then until the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong in World War II.
