Clonalis House

Hotels near Clonalis House, Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland .

The Clonalis House in Ireland may be one of the country's most important historic homes. Originally belonging to the O'Conors clan, practically Irish royalty, the House now sits for visitors to tour and even spend the night.

The Clonalis House represented the first mass concrete house built in Ireland. During the Irish Civil War, the Clonalis House was even occupied by members of the Irish Republican Army.

Visitors can admire the Italian and Queen Anne Style architecture throughout the home. Perhaps the most famous room remains the library. The room dates back to the 16th century, with the old book "Asconii Paediani Exposito" bearing a birth date of 1522.

Visitors wanting to spend more time in the Clonalis House can pay to stay in one of the suite bedrooms. Those just looking for a tour during the day can arrive to the house during summer months from June 1st through August 31st. Tours run around 45 minutes from 11AM until 4PM, Monday through Saturday.
