The Coimbatore International Airport is found in Peelamedu, India. Previously known as both the Peelamedu Aerodrome and the Coimbatore Civil Aerodrome, domestic destinations started back in the 1940’s with Indian Airlines as its main carrier of passengers.

In 2007, Coimbatore Airport expanded its operations and became an international airport with flights to Colombo and Singapore. Further expansion to accommodate bigger planes and to have its service facilities improved is in progress and is expected to be completed in two years time.

The current expansion includes aerobridges facility, expansion of the terminals by adding a second terminal and others. Domestic passenger airlines include the Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, JetLite, Kingfisher Airlines, Paramount Airways and SpiceJet Airlines. International flights are provided by Air Arabia and Silk Air with destinations to Sharjah and Singapore.

The city of Coimbatore is the main area the airport is located in. It is the largest city in the state of Tamil Nadu in India and has been known for its extensive contributions to the nation from its textile industries, automobile parts engineering and health care. The city is also one of the highest contributors in income to the state. Hotels in the area are Hotel City Tower and Rathna Residency.
