Housed in a replica of an 1880’s style train depot, the Colorado Railroad Museum is a testament to the importance of the railroad to the Rocky Mountains. The Museum documents the history of the railroad in the region, from the 1860s, when the trans-continental railroad arrived in Colorado to the present day.

The Colorado Railroad Museum is comprised of three buildings – the museum itself, in the depot, the Robert W. Richardson Library, and the Cornelius W. Hauck Restoration Facility, where original train cars and locomotives are brought back from the dead. The 15-acre museum grounds also include a 1/3-mile oval track, where working trains are operated on “Steam-Up Days”, and a shaded picnic area, overlooking Clear Creek.

Located at 17155 West 44th Avenue in Golden, the Colorado Railroad Museum is open seven days per week, from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. Admission ranges from $5-$8 per person, with special rates available for families, children, and senior citizens, and tours are available.
