Located in Golden, Colorado, the Colorado Railway Museum was established in 1959 as a means of preserving and recording the state’s railroad history. The museum is specifically dedicated to the pioneering of the narrow gauge mountain railroads.
The museum itself is built as a replica of an 1880s-style train depot. It is filled with rare photographs, artifacts and documents. Works include those by William Henry Jackson and Ted Rosa. The museum also includes the Denver HO Society’s “Denver and Western” operating model train layout. Apart from its regular exhibitions, the Colorado Railway Museum hosts special exhibits throughout the year as well.
Also on site are the Depot General Store, the Robert W. Richardson Reference Library and the Denver Garden Railway Society G-Scale Exhibit. A trip to the museum is sure to please the whole family.
The Colorado Railway Museum is open daily all year long from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Entry into the museum itself costs $8.00 and under, but prices are higher for special attractions and events (October 2009). Group rates are also available and should be consulted along with any other questions or concerns at www.coloradorailroadmuseum.org.
