Columbia Memorial Park in Columbia, South Carolina is a 7 acre park which is dedicated to the men and women who served the country and gave up their lives fighting in the Vietnam War. The park is home to a large monument and two stone walls inscribed with the names of 980 South Carolinians who were killed or missing in action in Vietnam. Between the walls is a five sided pylon which is carved with frieze motifs showing contributions from each branch of the armed forces. This is the largest memorial of its kind outside of Washington DC. The park also contains other memorials, for example, one for those in the USS Columbia CL-56 and for the victims of Pearl Harbor—the inscription reads In memory of the twenty-five men from South Carolina who gave their lives during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and on other military bases on 7 December 1941. Dedicated September 1995.
