The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, located in historic Columbus, Ohio, was established in 1951, as the only full-time professional symphony in this region of the state. The idea for what has now become the Columbus Symphony Orchestra got its start in the early 1900s, with the foundation of numerous symphony orchestras which have now become extinct. The Philharmonic Women's Association kept the tradition alive even after most of these symphonies were no longer running; they helped raise funds to send talented youth to summer music camps, which directly impacted the future of the symphony in Columbus. In 1955, the Columbus Little Symphony became the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

Throughout the symphony season, over a quarter of a million people will enjoy its music at concerts, special programs, and over the radio. In the 2009-2010 calendar season, concerts such as Beethoven's Ninth and Ben Folds will be conducted here.
