There's no denying the impact that The Civil War had on The United States and what a huge role it played in shaping the direction the country took. For a thoughtful, historical look at the war, there's no better museum in Charleston than The Confederate Museum.

Organized and run by the South Carolina branch of The United Daughters of the Confederacy, a group that also is known for its historical interest in re-enactments of regular life for Southern women in the 1860s, the museum has a number of artifacts from The Civil War and the surrounding time period.

But this museum is about more than just browsing artifacts. It takes part and is the host to many different historical lectures and meetings, as well as participating in The Confederate Ghost Walk. The museum offers a number of tours, both of its own collection and of historical Charleston in general.

The museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and open from eleven in the morning until three thirty on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Located right in the heart of historic downtown Charleston, a number of other attractions are nearby. Some of the closest hotels are Planters Inn, The Charleston Place Hotel, and The Meeting Street Inn.
