Located in Slovenia, Congress Square is one of the central squares in Ljubljana, its capital. Laid out as the Congress of the Holy Alliance in 1821 in the Baroque style on the site of a former monastery, the square was renamed Liberation Square during Socialist rule, getting the original name back in 1990.

The University of Ljubljana is on the south end of the square. Next to that is the Slovene Philharmonic building, built in 1891. A Biedermeirre house, now the site of the oldest Slovene publishing house, started in 1894, sits adjacent to the Philharmonic. The Kazina sits at the north end of the square. The park, called Zveda (or star) has a copy of a gold plated statue of the Patrician of Emona.

Congress Square has been the site of many political speeches and demonstrations throughout the years. Demonstrations beginning there in 1988 led to Slovenia's declaration of independence there in 1991. Former President Bill Clinton, the first president to visit Slovenia, addressed the public there in 1999.
