The Congressional Cemetery houses the remains of some of the earliest members of Congress who died while in office in the early days of Washington, D.C. Lying in state -- under monuments built from a design by Benjamin Latrobe -- are 19 Senators and 71 Representatives.

Located at 1801 E St SE, the cemetery was originally a public park known for its tranquil surroundings and excellent design. The cemetery is open daily from sunrise to dusk. The office and library hours are from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 10-1 on Saturday or by appointment.
