With the goal of inspiring interest in history, the Connecticut Historical Society runs a non-profit museum, library, and education center in picturesque Hartford, Connecticut. Since 1825, the museum has built its collections, including more prints and photographs, objects, 17th and 18th century furniture, costume and textiles, portraits and landscapes, tavern and trade signs, decorative arts, and toys and tools. The library contains thousands of volumes, and one of the nation’s most impressive collections of genealogical materials. Galleries feature both permanent and rotating exhibits, and the center offers educational and public programs for students of all ages. Admissions to the Historical Society museum galleries are $6 for adults, $3 for seniors, and $3 for students and youth, for a 1-Day Pass. Admissions to the library are of the same price scale, but purchased separately, or may be purchased in multi-day passes. Visit every Tuesday to Friday from 12pm-5pm, and Saturdays from 9am-5pm. There is also a small museum shop on premises.
