Adjacent to the National Mall, in Washington, D.C., United States, is the Constitution Gardens National Park. With over 50 acres and a prime location right between the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monuments, and Reflecting Pool, who would guess that at the beginning of the 20th Century the Gardens’ locale was at the bottom of the Potomac! The River there was dredged by the Army Corp of Engineers to build Navy and Munitions Buildings during World War I, with the structures later being torn down in 1970 under President Nixon. Nixon then ordered the establishment of a Park, a mandate completed in 1976 as a “living legacy American Revolution Bicentennial tribute.” Constitution Gardens’ features include a man-made lake and island commemorating the 56-signers of the Declaration of Independence, urban wildlife, and 24/7 Park access. There are no entry fees to visit Constitution Gardens, and park Rangers are available between 9:30am-11:30pm daily.
