The Coptic Museum in Cairo is home to one of the largest collections of Egyptian Christian relics and artifacts in the world. Established in 1910 by Marcus Simaika, the museum houses some of the most historical Coptic artifacts of Egypt and the world. Coptic art is the work of early Christians in Egypt. The Museum’s extensive collection of Coptic art includes wall paintings, textiles, illuminated manuscripts and other forms of art that they created to depict and show their faith in their religion.

The museum became state owned in 1931 and artifacts of Christian descent from the Egyptian Museum were transferred to the Coptic Museum in 1939. some of the rare pieces found inside are the Icon with St. Barbara, Icon with St. Serquis and St. Bacchus on one side and a face on the other, Icon with St. Anthony visiting St. Paul of Thebes, Icon with Jesus entering Jerusalem as a King, Relief with a cross, Gravestone, Two pages of manuscripts from the Nag Hammadi Library, Frontispiece of a Gospel and many more rare works of art.

Expanding over an area of 8,000 square meters, the museum has over 15,000 objects on display and over 1,100 pages of manuscripts from the Nag Hammadi Manuscripts. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. During Ramadan period, It is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entrance fees are 40 EGP for foreigners, 20 EGP for foreign students, 2 EGP for native Egyptians, and 1 EGP for native students.
