Coverciano which is also known as Casa Italia is located in the quarter of Florence with the same name and is the central training ground and technical headquarters for the FIGC which is the Italian Football Association.
It was built in the early 1950s and Coverciano now consists of five football pitches, a gym, a fitness club, two tennis courts, and an outdoor swimming pool. They now are boasting a four-star hotel Coverciano has been a common choice for football business meetings and has hosted in addition to the FIGC international bodies such as FIFA and UEFA. It’s training and licensing academy for coaches is considered to be one of the best in the world.
Most important is the ground's role in Italian football lore. FA technical director Howard Wilkinson first began preparations for the Centre and settled upon the 350-acre Burton site which was purchased by the FA in 2001. However, work was halted on the project in 2004 as the FA focused its financial efforts on the building of the new Wembley Stadium. Early in 2008 the plans were started back up with Trevor Brooking calling for the project to be finished by 2010 stating that without the NFC the England coach's job will get that much harder.
