Crocker Art Museum

Hotels near Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, United States .

Crocker Art Museum was established in 1885 and has been operating continuously longer than any museum in the western United States. Known almost as much for the beautiful Victorian building (at 216 O St) which houses the art, Crocker Art Museum is the top art destination in California’s Central Valley.

Margaret Crocker’s generous donation of the building and artworks launched the museum in 1885. Edwin B. Crocker, a local judge, had amassed an impressive collection of art over the years, from paintings and drawings bought in Europe to works by local artists. The permanent collection includes more than 14,000 pieces. From master drawings, Asian Art and International Ceramics to European and American painting collections, the Crocker is constantly acquiring new works. Exhibitions have included Edwin Deakin: California Painter of the Picturesque, Grandma Moses: Grandmother to the Nation and the Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons.

Museum hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Monday). On the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, the museum is open until 9 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students with ID. Admission is free on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
