Tucked inside the Venetian Lagoon, fed by the Adriatic Sea, Venice's cruise line terminal is one of the busiest of the Mediterranean. Venice sees the departure of nearly 500 ships a year, with around 70,000 passengers between them. The 4-km terminal, located between Tronchetto Island and Piazzale Roma, is made up of two main areas: the Marittima basin, which handles larger vessels, and San Basilo. Technically, however, it consists of three terminals: one for cruises, one for ferries and a third for hydrofoils. Because of the size and diversity of vessels in the terminal, it's important to know where your ship is docked ahead of time. If you haven't already obtained that information from your cruise line agent, English-language ferry schedules are listed on the Venezia Terminal Passeggeri website (listed below). It is recommended that you are aware of the specific embarkation procedures for your ship, as they vary from vessel to vessel and for each terminal. Luggage storage is available in the Piazzale Roma opposite the ACTV ticket office, at the Venice Marco Polo Airport arrivals hall or in the Venice Santa Lucia Railroad Station. Check the calendar on the website for upcoming events held in the terminal, such as a handicraft fair, cabaret show and a diverse array of workshops and conferences open to the public.
