Hotels near Cuba Street, Wellington, New Zealand .

Cuba Street is located in Wellington, New Zealand. It is one of the most well known areas in the city. The street is a prominent area that was named after a settler ship that was in the area around the year 1840. It is found south of the Central Business District of the city and was once a main route of the Wellington trams.

The area has one of the heaviest pedestrian traffic in the vicinity, with heavy traffic existing almost every hour. The area is home to several eclectic shops and boutiques. The Cuba Street is also one of the four main Quarters of the City, the others being Lamnton Quay, Courternay Place and Willis Street.

The northern area of the street is home to a great variety of retail stores, cafes and restaurants. The southern end is quieter with being the area that is being revived nowadays. In the mid-eighties, the Vivian Street which is horizontal to Cuba Street was known as the town’s Red Light district due to the rampant availability of strip clubs and peep shows.

The street is known as a gathering area for artistic production and several of these are attributed to the presence of art establishments like the Enjoy Gallery, The Moko Tattoo Museum, Thistle Hall and the Mary Newton Gallery.

Hotels in the area are Travelodge Wellington, James cook Hotel Grand Chancellor, Novotel Wellington and the Mercure Wellington Willis Street.
