One of the most distinctive buildings in downtown Albany, The Cultural Education Center stands in front of a reflecting pool right in the midst of Empire State Park. The building, which was completed in the 1970s, houses a number of integral offices for New York State, including The New York State Archives, The New York State Library, and even The New York State Museum.

Visitors to the building will find parking in downtown is usually a bit complicated, but it's made much easier if you know where the closest parking lots are located. Cathedral Parking Lot, The V Lot, and Madison Visitor Parking are all close enough that parking isn't a hassle, and there's no charge for parking in Cathedral Parking Lot.

The New York State Library and The New York State Archives are both only open on weekdays, but The New York State Museum has additional hours on Saturday and Sunday. The Museum offers interesting lectures as well as several research programs, including initiatives into biology, geology ,and a broader historical understanding of the state itself. Admission is free, though a donation is suggested. The State Archives provide an extensive collection of documents relating to both Dutch and British colonial rule, as well as the subsequent state government. The library is mostly research related, and a huge asset for members of the local university community.
