Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Curtis Institute of Music is home to a degree-offering musical conservatory and an impressive list of distinguished alumni. Founded in 1924 by Mary Louise Curtis Bok, the Institute is still located in the three adjoined mansions on Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square that Ms. Bok purchased herself. The Curtis Institute prides itself on selectivity as all students attend on full scholarship, and therefore has one of the lowest acceptance rates on any place of higher learning in the United States. The Institute caters to orchestral players, but also trains pianists, singers, organists and composers, offering either Diplomas or Bachelor of Music degrees, with a Master of Music degree or Professional Studies Certificate available to vocal students. The Curtis Institute and its celebrated faculty are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Community members and visitors to Philadelphia enjoy frequent performances from the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Curtis Opera Theatre, Student Recital Series, Alumni Recital Series, PECO Family Concert Series, and more.
