Just a short drive north of the South Lake Tahoe resort and tourism center, is the D.L. Bliss State Park. This California state park, set along the western shore of Lake Tahoe, exists thanks to a 1929 land donation by Duane Leroy Bliss and family. The beauty of the Sierra Nevadas draws thousands of visitors annually to D.L. Bliss State Park, as does the Balancing Rock Nature Trail, and the Rubicon Point Light, the tallest lighthouse in the United States, from which it is possible to see more than 100 feet into the depths of Lake Tahoe. Make the quick trip to Eagle Falls in Emerald Bay State Park to get a great view of not only the Bay itself, but Lake Tahoe and Fannette Island. Keep in mind that Park hours are subject to change, and be sure to call ahead before planning an outing. During the summer guest may camp within the Park, or choose from nearby accommodations like Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, the 938 Park Hotel the Alpenrose Inn and Secrets Inn Lake Tahoe. Other area attractions include the Heavenly Ski Resort and the Gondola at Heavenly, the Discover Lake Tahoe Wine and Harvest Tour, the Tallac Historic Site, the Lake Tahoe Golf Course and Camp Richardson.
