Dallas City Hall

Hotels near Dallas City Hall, Dallas, United States .

One of the most important buildings in the whole city of Dallas as far as government goes, Dallas City Hall is pretty much the seat of government for the entire city. Located in downtown Dallas, right in the heart of what's known as the city's government district, the present version of Dallas City Hall as served as a huge meeting place for municipal government since 1978.

Dallas began to think about creating a new city hall after the backlash the city experienced following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In the city's effort to fix its tarnished image, the mayor at the time pushed for a design project for the city's new city hall.

From that point on, Dallas was back on the right track. The first meeting held in the current incarnation of Dallas City Hall was in 1978. Visitors interested in architecture often make note of the inverted pyramid design, which might not initially be what one expects to see housing Dallas City Hall, but which makes more sense when you consider the weather and how the structure actually manages to keep cooler thanks to this edgy modernist design.

In addition to simply housing city hall meetings, Dallas City Hall is also the site of a number of different government offices and work areas, as well as a cultural center with an auditorium. Out front, The Park Plaza includes a reflecting pool and a number of park benches, each shaded by trees native to the state of Texas.

Open every day of the week, Dallas City Hall sometimes offers tours if you plan ahead of time to make a reservation. A number of hotels are located just a short distance from Dallas City Hall, including The Joule, The Adolphus Hotel, and The Magnolia Hotel Dallas.
