The Davenport House Museum, which was built by Isaiah Davenport to become his family home in 1820, is located in beautiful Savannah, Georgia. Done in the Federal style, the home which visitors see today features original plasterwork, genuine furnishings from the time period, and a cantilever staircase. Saved from demolition by the Historic Savannah Foundation in 1955, the house also boasts a lovely courtyard garden, which was notably redesigned by Penelope Hobhouse, a renowned horticulturalist. Numerous social and community events take place at the Davenport House Museum, which may include bazaars, holiday festivities, and candlelight tours replete with music and refreshments.
