The stadium is the second oldest amongst Division 1-A college football teams in the United States, and after multiple renovation projects, has a capacity of over 55,000 people.

Especially notable at Davis Wade Stadium is the high-definition video display board, the second largest such video board in American college football. The video board cost Mississippi State University $6.1 million dollars, replacing the JumboTron that was installed in 1997. With in-state tuition costing approximately five thousand dollars, the decision to purchase the video display board was controversial.
