De Doelen

De Doelen is a convention centre and a concert venue in Rotterdam, Holland.

It has an interesting history, being built in 1936 but destroyed during the German bombardment in May, 1940 and it was rebuilt in 1966 with one hall, two other being added in the 1990s. De Doelen concert hall is a much praised, but also a state-of-the-art conference center. This combination of two functions is by far the largest of the Netherlands.

It has a wide variety of facilities, like the Grote Zaal( Grand Hall), a concert hall with 2200 seats and two smaller halls, each seating about 700 peoples and some convention rooms. De Doelen is mainly known as a hall for classical music but is also a stage for world music, jazz and and as the Central Boxoffice for the Rotterdam International Film Festival. Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra is also housed by De Doelen. Each year there are over 600 concerts here. More than 650,000 visitors per year visited the Goals. If Doelen concert hall occupies the second place in the Netherlands in terms of audience reach (after the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Vredenburg in Utrecht before), regarding the stage settings is by far the first place, with the target brand being the strongest culture brand for Rotterdam.

De Doelen is located at a five minutes walk from Rotterdam CS train station, and the Central Station of the Rotterdam metro is near the hall. Buses number 33,38 and 44 also reaches the hall.
