De Grolsch Veste

De Grolsch Veste is located in Enschede, Holland, near the University of Twente, at the Business and Science Park and is the home stadium of the football team FC Twente.

FC Twente home stadium was the old Diekman Stadion until it was replaced with De Grolsch Veste in 1998. The stadium has promenade instead of fences around the stands and a seated capacity of 24.000 with a standard pitch heating system. The plans were to expand and renovate the old stadium (which is now demolished), but because the growing fan number and with arguments that the location of the Diekman stadium was not strategic enough, it came the idea of building a new Stadium for FC Twente. As a result of the FIFA regulations which impose a necessity to construct a seating tribune behind each goal post, The Diekman ground had also faced problems with its seating plans. The construction was completed in fourteen months and was estimated to be around 33 million guilders. The layout of the stadium was constructed in such a way that future expansions can be possible without the necessity to tear down entire tribunes because of the tight budget.

A new phase in the stadium expansion is aimed to be started in 2010, which will result in a capacity of 34000 seats.

The Drienerlolaan train station is near the station. If the tourists are arriving by bus, they should take line 1 towards Twente University and get off at Drienerlolaan train station.
