De Montfort University is a British University located in Leicester, England. The university is affiliated with the University Alliances Association of Commonwealth Universities. This university is named on behalf of Simon de Montfort who served as “Earl of Leicester” during thirteen century. Before 1992 the university was called “Leicester Polytechnic”, as it was formed in 1969 with combination of Leicester College of Art and Leicester College of Technology.
With the initial plan of making De Montfort University a Multi Campus University serving entire region of East Midlands, it started to acquire campuses in Lincoln, Bedford, East Leicester, Milton Keynes, Luton and Caythorpe. In 1995 the university acquired the Charles Frears College of Nursing and Midwifery situated in Leicester. In 2001 the Governors decided to consolidate in the Leicester Campus while its other sites were transferred or closed during the process.

Currently the De Montfort University consists of two campuses namely Charles Frears and Leicester City. The university has more than 20500 students studying under Post Graduate, Under Graduate programs with over three thousand staff assisting them. The University has one institute and five faculties namely The Faculty of Art and Design, The faculty of Technology, The faculty of Business and law, The faculty of Health and life Sciences and The faculty of Humanities.

The De Montfort University School of Pharmacy remains as one of he few schools in United Kingdom that offers degree in Pharmacy. Notable alumni of university are Charles Dance, Nicola Pellow, David Shirgley, Simon Wells and Lewis Moody.
