The Des Moines Playhouse, a theatre which was founded in 1919 by members of the Iowa Press and Author’s Club. The Playhouse is dedicated to ‘little theatre’; its main focus is on reaching out to the community through excellent productions that center on issues of social significance such as self expression, self esteem and respect. The Playhouse is one of the six oldest operations of its kind in the country and it’s the second largest community theatre in the USA. More than 55,000 people attend the Playhouse’s productions each season. There’s a professional staff of ten plus more than 1,000 volunteers who work together to make magic happen.
